Unfortunately, some issues have now arisen with Vista and an ASPI layer support (needed for freedb to obtain CD details).
And, oh dear,
after more testing, there are several other issues with Vista that will almost
certainly mean that we cannot offer Vista compatibility/support for the
foreseeable future in MidWavi Pro (it works, but not all of it works).
The Jury is out on this one at present so, for the time being, we will have to withdraw our support for Vista :(
So, what are we saying here...well, we recommend that you only run MidWavi Pro on Windows XP (and don't forget to keep XP updated)...End!
The reason that MidWavi Pro is 'try before you buy' Shareware is that we do not have the resources to test on multi platform hardware & O/S.
Tests using MidWavi Pro version 3.00 Beta and Vista Home Basic/ Vista Home Basic SP1 (released by Microsoft on the 18th March 2008) on an Intel Core2 Quad and an Intel Celeron M540 system indicate:

FreeKapture Setup.Exe will over-write (update) any existing version to the version that you have downloaded and this latest version will then be available to MidWavi Pro (v2.98 and on).
In other words: for example if you currently have (say) v1.04 of FreeKapture installed and download (say) v2.00, after running Setup.Exe, MidWavi Pro (v2.98 and on) will then 'see' v2.00.

It should be said that whilst FreeKapture is now considered 'stable' - Boy, might we regret saying that :) - being brand new, FreeKapture is a 'work in progress' so possibly expect some fairly frequent updates for a while...nothing sinister, just improvements and 'tweaks' (and, occasionally, new features).
If you have any issues, FreeKapture is, by default, installed in:
Program Files\TSoft\MidWavi\
In case you are curious about this 'Path', it's where MidWavi Pro gets installed to by default and by placing FreeKapture here, ensures that MidWavi Pro can 'see' it.

Simtel have changed their download system.
When you click on a Simtel download link, they upload their small (355KB) download manager (for
instance, for MidWavi Pro this is called download-midwavi.zip.exe, for FreeKapture:
download-fk.zip.exe etc.).
Depending on your O/S (and settings), if asked, you should allow this file to be run - it's from
Digital River.
You should see a 'progress' screen (if not, minimise your Browser) something like this example:

The purpose of the download manager is to optimise the download speed by using
the nearest Server to your locale.

(Needless to say, this will also work on any given file (with an MD5 checksum) against any other file compared to it).
Using a system called MD5, a unique code (hash/checksum) is generated and if when checked against a download (with a given MD5 hash), the codes match, you can be sure that you have an original. You can also generate your own MD5 hash code for, example, on a backup file so that you can then compare the backup to the original to ensure the backup is a mirror image of the original.
Obviously, any MD5 checksum (code) should work with our MD5 Checker, so feel free to use this utility wherever you find one.

First, place the given MD5 checksum on the Clipboard and ensure you highlight only the checksum before Copying to the Clipboard (Ctrl C or Edit...Copy)
Run the MD5 Check Utility (MD5.Exe) and this should automatically place the contents of the Clipboard in for you (top box above). If not, please ensure that you have correctly copied the checksum to the Clipboard, and then click on the Paste button. You can also use the Paste facility for checking more than one MD5 checksum without the need to re-run MD5.Exe (simply copy the next desired checksum to the Clipboard and take the Paste option to refresh the box...then the Browse option).
Browse to where your download (or any File that you wish to compare) is and select it by either double left-mouse clicking on it or by highlighting it and taking the 'Open' option. If the codes match, the download is the same as the original.
You may also create your own MD5 checksum(s) if required (for example, to check that a backup file is identical to the original etc.)...just click on the 'Create an MD5 checksum' option (Radio button), and Browse to the required file (and again, select it as per the instructions above) . The result will be automatically placed on the Clipboard for you and an offer to run Windows Notepad is made so that, if you want to, you can Paste (Ctrl+V) the MD5 Code into Notepad and save the result.

MidWavi Pro 2.74 (and on) relies on you having a so-called ASPI layer (driver) installed in order for the freedb functions to operate. If your system has CD burning software installed, you will probably be ok, if not, you might require an ASPI driver.
If MidWavi Pro cannot access your CD drive(s) - i.e. errors are reported - please visit the link below, download the file aspi!.exe (it's only 157K ) and run it (that is, install it).

On some systems, even with the above driver, external CD/DVD (i.e. USB Drives etc.) Drives will not be detected by the freedb 'engine'...this release should improve on the quality of warnings issued in this situation. MidWavi Pro should always recognise all Drives (and therefore play Audio CD's from any of your Drives), but you may not be able to use external Drives with the freedb option.
One workaround that appears to overcome this problem is:
If you own a registered copy of Nero
(Ahead software) that is installed on your system, copy the file WNASPI32.DLL
from the Nero Folder to (for Windows XP):
Windows\System32
But firstly, rename the original Windows file to WNASPI32.DLL.ORG or
whatever (in case you need it back).
If you have ANY doubts about the above, DON'T DO IT!!!

ensure that you uninstall MidWavi Pro and FreeKapture prior to v2.98!
