Update: 29th March 2008...

Unfortunately, some issues have now arisen with Vista and an ASPI layer support (needed for freedb to obtain CD details).

And, oh dear, after more testing, there are several other issues with Vista that will almost certainly mean that we cannot offer Vista compatibility/support for the foreseeable future in MidWavi Pro (it works, but not all of it works).

The Jury is out on this one at present so, for the time being, we will have to withdraw our support for Vista :(

So, what are we saying here...well, we recommend that you only run MidWavi Pro on Windows XP (and don't forget to keep XP updated)...End!

The reason that MidWavi Pro is 'try before you buy' Shareware is that we do not have the resources to test on multi platform hardware & O/S.

Tests using MidWavi Pro version 3.00 Beta and Vista Home Basic/ Vista Home Basic SP1 (released by Microsoft on the 18th March 2008) on an Intel Core2 Quad and an Intel Celeron M540 system indicate:

Version 2.99 (FREE to Registered users) is now available and supports the MOD sound (so dig out those old Amiga sounds :) ) and MPEG video file formats.

May we remind you that if you are writing MPEG Tags back to a CD/DVD, obviously, this must be re-writable media (CD-RW ~ DVD-RW ~ DVD+RW or DVD-RAM) and you must be running the necessary Packet Writing software (InCD - Direct CD etc.).

As you probably already know, Windows XP supports DVD-RAM (Fat 32) 'out of the box' so if you have formatted your DVD-RAM disc this way, no special drivers are required.

On some systems, external CD/DVD (i.e. USB Drives etc.) Drives will not be detected by the freedb 'engine'...this release should improve on the quality of warnings issued in this situation. MidWavi Pro should always recognise all Drives (and therefore play Audio CD's from any of your Drives), but you may not be able to use external Drives with the freedb option.

One workaround that appears to overcome this problem is:

If you own a registered copy of Nero (Ahead software) that is installed on your system, copy the file WNASPI32.DLL from the Nero Folder to (for Windows XP):

Windows\System32

But firstly, rename the original Windows file to WNASPI32.DLL.ORG or whatever (in case you need it back).

If you have ANY doubts about the above, DON'T DO IT!!!

• Play

• Pause

• Stop

• Next Track

• Previous Track

• Random

• Restore MidWavi Pro to full screen

• Exit MidWavi Pro

This means of course that you will be able to minimise (minimize) the MidWavi Pro Audio CD Player or the Sound & Video Player to a simple Icon over which you can Left Mouse Click to restore or Right Mouse Click for options (see the Registered Users page for more detail). 

Once Minimized, Right Mouse Click On Icon For All Options...

And these will be your options...

Version 2.99 has zipping capability from MidWavi Pro built-in! Send all selected files in the MidWavi Pro file List Box to a Zip file... What this means is that, using the powerful drive search feature of MidWavi Pro, you will be able to store ALL supported media found on a given drive into a Zip file with just a few keystrokes and later retrieve and play/display them from the Zip file!

Tip:

Single RIGHT-mouse clicks abound in MidWavi Pro...some examples in case you have missed them:

Over a Play or Display Button (in CD, Sound and Graphic modules) will toggle Random mode on/off.

Over the Random checkbox on the Audio CD Player screen will display the random track order.

Over the Select checkbox on the Audio CD Player screen will display the
order of play.

Over a filename in the listbox (Sound & Graphic modules) will display file
details.

Over a graphic in 'TV Look' mode will display full details of sound and picture. In all other graphic modes, right-clicking anywhere WITHIN the graphic will pop-up a menu.

Bonus Tip:

Also, using the Control (Ctrl) Key (that is, whilst holding down the Ctrl Key, hit the other desired Key) can produce some short cuts...

Ctrl plus V in the Audio CD Player and Sound & Video modules will bring up the Windows volume control (if installed)...

Ctrl plus Z in the Sound & Video and Graphics modules will bring up the offer to ZIP all selected files...

Ctrl plus C in the Graphics module will send a displayed graphic to the Windows Clipboard...
