All support for Windows 98/98 SE & Me from Microsoft ceased on 11th July 2006!

Also, support for Windows XP SP1 from Microsoft has now ceased.

For example, the regular monthly update for August 2006 to XP was over 8MB in size, and none of this will be provided for Win 9.x & Me systems any more!!!

We will attempt to keep supporting these now out-dated Operating Systems, but cannot of course give any firm assurances that MidWavi Pro will work on Operating Systems that Microsoft will no longer be supporting.

You are urged, if possible, to move on to Windows XP SP3 (or whatever).

_______________________________________

For Microsoft confirmation of this, see here.

Without wishing to sound too alarmist, our best advice is, if you are still on the Windows 9.x series, stay off the Internet after July 11th 2006...why...because every possible exploit will be found and used against it with no hope of a fix (patch) from Microsoft.

Hope this helps.

Thank you.

MD5 Checker

FreeKapture

Version 2.99 will no longer restrict registered users to one machine...you will be free to install MidWavi Pro on any machines that you own (a Hackers field day :) ) ...all we ask in return is that you do not 'donate' copies to friends and family...possibly like you, we are trying to earn a living here. Thank you.

Also, you will receive our completely FREE software's:

And all of this for $18 (US Dollars) - because of the current exchange rate situation, probably much cheaper in Pounds Sterling and Euros.

NEW ~ NEW ~ NEW

Please note that this was saved as a JPEG file and is only 28KB in size!

Registered users will be emailed direct as to how to obtain their copy.

Tip:

Single RIGHT-mouse clicks abound in MidWavi Pro...some examples in case you have missed them:

Over a Play or Display Button (in CD, Sound and Graphic modules) will toggle Random mode on/off.

Over the Random checkbox on the Audio CD Player screen will display the random track order.

Over the Select checkbox on the Audio CD Player screen will display the
order of play.

Over a filename in the listbox (Sound & Graphic modules) will display file
details.

Within the Sound & Video module:

Select Sound & Video will toggle 'Select Play List' or 'Select Sound & Video'

Within the Graphics Viewer module:

Select Files For Display will toggle 'Select Display List' or 'Select Files For Display'

Over a graphic in 'TV Look' mode will display full details of sound and picture. In all other graphic modes, right-clicking anywhere WITHIN the graphic will pop-up a menu.

Bonus Tip:

Also, using the Control (Ctrl) Key (that is, whilst holding down the Ctrl Key, hit the other desired Key) can produce some short cuts...

Ctrl plus V in the Audio CD Player and Sound & Video modules will bring up the Windows volume control (if installed)...

Ctrl plus Z in the Sound & Video and Graphics modules will bring up the offer to ZIP all selected files...

Ctrl plus C in the Graphics module will send a displayed graphic to the Windows Clipboard...

...and so on (there are many more)...see the Help file...enjoy.

MidWavi Pro 2.74 (and on) relies on you having a so-called ASPI layer (driver) installed in order for the freedb functions to operate. If your system has CD burning software installed, you will probably be ok, if not, you might require an ASPI driver.

If MidWavi Pro cannot access your CD drive(s) - i.e. errors are reported - please visit the link below, download the file aspi!.exe (it's only 157K ) and run it (that is, install it).

Download the ASPI Driver

On some systems, external CD/DVD (i.e. USB Drives etc.) Drives will not be detected by the freedb 'engine'...this release should improve on the quality of warnings issued in this situation. MidWavi Pro should always recognise all Drives (and therefore play Audio CD's from any of your Drives), but you may not be able to use external Drives with the freedb option.

One workaround that appears to overcome this problem is:

If you own a registered copy of Nero (Ahead software) that is installed on your system, copy the file WNASPI32.DLL from the Nero Folder to (for Windows XP):

Windows\System32

But firstly, rename the original Windows file to WNASPI32.DLL.ORG or whatever (in case you need it back).

If you have ANY doubts about the above, DON'T DO IT!!!

Free to registered users (please send an email requesting information on obtaining new Registration Keys if need be).

There will now be available both an unregistered and a registered version of the 'Burn CD Now' file as optional downloads (registered users will be advised as to how to obtain their copy...please do not download the version available on this site...that is an unregistered version). Quite simply, you download this file, ensure you have a blank (unformatted) CD in your burner and run the file. The CD creation is entirely automatic and MidWavi Pro will then run from the resulting CD...full details here but again, registered users SHOULD NOT download this version (this is a 60 day trial version).

MD5 Checker...

Suppose you want to ensure that one file (i.e. a backup or download) is identical to the original..

Using a system called MD5, a unique code (hash/checksum) is generated and if when checked against a download or any file with a given MD5 code, the codes match, you can be sure that you have an original.

Obviously, any MD5 checksum (code) should work with our MD5 Checker, so feel free to use this utility wherever you find one.

The option to run MD5 Checker can be found on all three main screen Menus (Audio CD Player, Sound & Video, Graphics)

·         First, place the given MD5 checksum on the Clipboard and ensure you highlight only the checksum before Copying to the Clipboard (Ctrl C or Edit...Copy)

·         Run the MD5 Check Utility (MD5.Exe) and this should automatically place the contents of the Clipboard in for you (top box above). If not, please ensure that you have correctly copied the checksum to the Clipboard, and then click on the Paste button.

You can also use the Paste facility for checking more than one MD5 checksum without the need to re-run MD5.Exe (simply copy the next desired checksum to the Clipboard and take the Paste option to refresh the box...then the Browse option).

·         Browse to where your download (or file) is and select it by either double left-mouse clicking on it or by highlighting it and taking the 'Open' option. If the codes match, the download (or file) is the same as the original.

·         You may also create your own MD5 checksum if required (for example, to check that a backup file is identical to the original)...just click on the 'Create an MD5 checksum' option (Radio button), and Browse to the required file (and select it as per the instructions above). The result will be automatically placed on the Clipboard for you.  Of course, the idea here is that you can create an MD5 hash (checksum) and later compare your own files (backups etc.) or ‘publish’ the checksum on the Internet or wherever.

Please note that MD5 Checker can also be run as a ‘stand-alone’ program, that is, you do not have to run it from within MidWavi Pro (it resides in the default MidWavi Pro Folder as MD5.Exe).

It is truly a 'stand-alone' program in as much that is DOES NOT require ANY support software (i.e. NET Framework, or any DLL's).

All files on the MidWavi Pro websites now have an associated MD5 checksum.

Our Freeware MD5 Checker is now included with MidWavi Pro.

All our downloads now include an MD5 checksum (hash/code) on our websites.

MD5 Checker has been tested on a 6GB+ file with success.

(Please note that MD5.Exe can be run as a 'stand-alone' program from outside MidWavi Pro).

New in version 2.99...

A brand new feature in the Sound & Video Player called PlayMark... see new Help file for full details.

____________________________________________

2.98  - 14th May 2007

New in version 2.98...

If you play a CD that has previously been through the MidWavi Pro freedb module (and the CD data saved to MidWavi Pro's user created database of known CD's), you then (without closing down MidWavi Pro) play a NEW i.e. a previously unknown CD to MidWavi Pro and gain information on this new CD from freedb, if the new data has not been saved, MidWavi Pro will not prompt you to save this new data when you exit the freedb screen (module).

The worst that can happen is that you will have to re-submit this CD to freedb the next time you run MidWavi Pro with this CD (and then take the 'Save' option on the freedb screen).

However, we do not consider this acceptable behaviour.

This has been fixed in version 2.98 so that it should be impossible to exit the freedb screen with un-saved data unless you so chose.

However, MidWavi Pro 2.96 (and on) no longer supports Windows 95 and Windows NT4.

Free to registered users (please send an email requesting information on obtaining new Registration Keys if need be).

You now have 60 days in which to evaluate the product.

2.97  - 9th March 2007

The Sound & Video module can now also be minimised to the System Tray in the same manner as the CD Audio Player (Ctrl S gets you there).

All options are available from the System Tray by right mouse clicking over the MidWavi Pro icon... i.e. Play - Stop- Random etc.

The Sound & Video module can now display incrementing/decrementing plus total play time on the Task Bar (this option is controlled from the Audio CD Player's 'Tools - Turn update Icon whilst maximised ON/OFF' Menu, the default is ON)!

Please see on-line Help for full details of the above improvements.

The search engine has been 'tweaked'.

Dragging to desired Play position has been re-introduced for MID sound files and the 'Dragging to Play position' routines have been improved a little further.

More accurate and faster determination of CPU speed on the 'Tools-System Status' menu option.

All our downloads now include an MD5 checksum (code) on our web site(s).

2.96  - 27th November 2006

New in version 2.96...

Please note that because ALL support for the Windows 9.x series (including Windows Me) was ceased by Microsoft on 11th July 2006, we can no longer guarantee that MidWavi Pro will work on those now out-dated Operating Systems (although we will try to maintain compatibility).

However, MidWavi Pro 2.96 (and on) no longer supports Windows 95 and Windows NT4.

Free to registered users (please send an email requesting information on obtaining new Registration Keys if need be).

You now have 60 days in which to evaluate the product.

Massive update to Help system...now changed to CHM (Compiled H T M L) style Help (see 'Help on Help' within the new Help system) and large sections of Help have been added or amended (now includes some embedded graphic files to illustrate points made)!

You can now abort a disk search with an option to retain the files (if any) thus far found (see 'Search Drive' in the Help system).

Dragging to Play position routines have been re-written and now correctly calculate the Elapsed/Remaining time for sound files (and Audio CD) when dragging progress bar, but dragging of MID sound files is no longer supported (search for "slide control" - include the speech marks - in the new Help system).

2.94  - 1st June 2006

Support for the MOD sound file format has been added (see the MED Help section).

MOD XP Silver Look.gif (14588 bytes) Click to enlarge.

Improvements made to the the way a 'multi-hit' selection is made in the freedb option... i.e. if more than one CD is displayed, once you select a Checkbox, MidWavi Pro will automatically download those details without the need for further intervention.

The latest freedb Server list is included in the download.

2.93  - 6th January 2006

You now have a Random play pop-up option when the Audio CD Player is minimised to the system tray.

These are your full options:

The following problems have been resolved:

Using the MD5 Menu option when your file listbox is empty (Sound & Video and Graphic modes) is permissible now!

A possibly erroneous (but otherwise harmless) message that was coming up in the Audio CD Player module regarding external CD/DVD drives should no longer occur.

You may now use the Ctrl+T shortcut option on the Sound & Video screen, to activate the MPEG Tag Viewer-Editor.

May we remind you that if you are writing MPEG Tags back to a CD/DVD, obviously, this must be re-writable media (CD-RW ~ DVD-RW ~ DVD+RW or DVD-RAM) and you must be running the necessary Packet Writing software (InCD - Direct CD etc.).

As you probably already know, Windows XP supports DVD-RAM (Fat 32) 'out of the box' so if you have formatted your DVD-RAM disc this way, no special drivers are required.

Several Cosmetic fixes have been applied.

Latest Zip libraries included.

Audio CD Player:
May we remind you that if you have more than one CD/DVD Drive, to ensure that only one contains an Audio CD as, whilst 2.92 (and on) should now be much more robust on this issue, it is possible that MidWavi Pro could still get confused if more than one CD/DVD Disc is 'sensed'. Thank you.

Version 2.92  - 10th August 2005

Some anomalies with the freedb option with external drives have been fixed and several cosmetic changes made.

Version 2.91  - 3rd May 2005

You can choose CD Tracks from a new drop-down <Track Titles> box on the Audio CD Player... Click to enlarge Click to enlarge

Obviously, Track titles can only be presented if you have already obtained them and they are stored in the MidWavi Pro data base (or from the freedb option).

Also, some small bugs are fixed with the Audio CD Player and the freedb screen synchronisation.

Version 2.90  - 11th October 2004

You will now be able to run the Audio CD Player from the System Tray area (bottom right of your Windows screen as depicted below) with full control over:

This means of course that you will be able to minimise (minimize) the MidWavi Pro Audio CD Player to a simple Icon over which you can Left Mouse Click to restore or Right Mouse Click for options.

Once Minimized, Right Mouse Click On Icon For All Options... MidWavi Pro System Tray Icon

This mode only applies to the Audio CD Player screen so of course you must have this active for the following to apply.

To activate this mode, go to the Tools Menu on the Audio CD Player screen and take the option 'Send To System Tray'. A much quicker way though is to use the shortcut keys of Ctrl+S (that is, whilst holding down the Ctrl key, press the S (or s) key).

Once MidWavi Pro has been sent to the System Tray, you have two options by placing the cursor over the MidWavi Pro icon in the System Tray:

A single Left Mouse click on the icon will restore MidWavi Pro to full screen (and remove it from the System Tray).

A single Right Mouse click on the icon will reveal a pop-up menu offering the (self explanatory) options as detailed above, namely:

You may enter/exit the 'System Tray' mode as often as you wish.

Version 2.89  - 10th May 2004

Also new, the CD Track numbers are now displayed on the freedb screen. Click to enlarge

A progress bar is also now provided.

Please bear in mind that this Player is not as comprehensive as the main MidWavi Pro CD Player and you can easily switch between the two.

You may now save your edited MPEG Tags to a re-writeable CD/DVD. Click to enlarge

Supported media is:

As you can see, we do not support CD-R, DVD-R or DVD+R (whilst these may work on some systems, none of this media have been tested).

You need to have the proper software (InCD, DirectCD etc.) running for this to work so this means that if you can write to any of the above supported media from within Windows Explorer then you should be able to do the same from within MidWavi Pro.

In Windows XP, DVD-RAM is supported (Fat32) 'out of the box' so no special driver is required.

More information is now shown as to the fields you are about to update with the MPEG Tag editor. Click to enlarge

Version 2.88  - 12th February 2004

Batch Processing:     Click to enlarge...

DO NOT rename any other type of file to mp2 or mp3! MidWavi Pro would happily over-write the end of such a file and permanently damage the file in this way.

All of the original Single File processing details still apply (see help on the Video & Sound Player Tools menu option), but with one major difference…you can change the Tags of multiple mp2 and mp3 files in one pass. This is a very powerful option.

Start by placing all desired MPEG files in the File List Box (either by letting MidWavi Pro search for them or by you selecting them from a Folder (directory).

Then, ensure that only the files that you wish to change are selected (ticked) that is, un-tick files that you do not want to update the Tags on. It is ok to leave non-MPEGS ticked (mid, med, wav etc.) because these will be ignored during batch processing.

You might find it easier to take the Sub Select option of No files (ticked) and then tick the ones you want (also, see MidWavi Pro Play & Display in the on-line Help).

High-light (single mouse click) on the file name that you wish to use as template (you can change this later).

Go to the MidWavi Pro MPEG Tag Viewer-Editor (Ctrl+T is the shortcut) and whatever file was highlighted in the File List Box will be presented in the Edit area.

You may at this stage take the Select File option to change the template file.

You now have to choose which characteristics (Genre, Artist Name etc. etc.) that you wish all the other selected MPEGS to take-on by way of ticking the required Checkbox adjacent to your requirements (i.e. if the current file has a ‘Rock’ Genre, by ticking the Genre Checkbox, once you take the Batch Mode Save option, ALL the files will have a Genre of ‘Rock’). This version does not allow any attempt to Batch Mode Save back to a writeable DVD/CD.

It is possible to update more than one field in one pass that is, you might want all the selected MPEGS to adopt the same Artists name and Genre as the template file. To do so, merely check (tick) the Artist and Genre boxes…it’s that simple (see the screenshot above which, in this example, would mean that after a Batch Save, all the selected files would have the same detail for the fields 'Artist' - 'Album' - 'Release' and 'Style').

If no file is suitable as a template, you can of course edit any of the fields to suit your requirements making sure that the relevant Checkboxes are ticked before you Batch Save.

Remember, ALL the selected files will take on the (and only the) characteristics of the details in the Edit area that have a tick beside them.

Obviously, it’s not a good idea to have all the Checkboxes ticked because you would then end up with all the selected MPEGS having identical Tags!

Because the original files will be over-written when taking the Batch Mode Save option, as always when changing data, please ensure you have backups!

A display at the top right will give you the number of files currently selected. This changes to the number of files processed after the Batch Mode Save option. The two figures will not necessarily agree because if you have any non-MPEGS selected, MidWavi Pro will of course ignore them.

DO NOT rename any other type of file to mp2 or mp3! MidWavi Pro would happily over-write the end of such a file and permanently damage the file in this way.

Version 2.87  - 12th December 2003

We are looking at various ways of alerting you to this situation, but for now, please observe the above simple rule.

Version 2.86  - 15th August 2003

Some cosmetic changes plus some Tool Tips updates.

Version 2.85  - 2nd June 2003

Version 2.84  - 3rd March 2003

MidWavi Pro now runs from a CD including freedb support...however, we repeat what we have previously said on this matter...PLEASE READ THIS!

In simple terms, MidWavi Pro now uses two methods to determine a CD Drive. The most commonly understood method of drive letters (E: G: etc.) and the lesser-known ASPI device ID method.

Unfortunately, these two are not always synchronized together (although in most 'standard' systems they are).

MidWavi Pro checks for this and if problems are found, you are automatically presented with a list of the not so often seen CD Drive manufacturers drive description (rather than drive letters). You then choose from this list (by clicking on a selection to highlight it) and that 'connection' is then maintained for the rest of the session.

If you change CD Drives (in the drop down drive selection box), the above sequence is repeated.

The last used 'connection' is automatically maintained for use next time.

If you an unsure (by the manufacturers drive description) which drive to select, providing there is only one CD loaded in only one drive, MidWavi Pro will dissuade selections until you select the drive with an Audio CD in it (although you can over-ride this at your own peril).

In other words, please avoid leaving CD's in drives that are not in use (good idea at the best of times).

If you do have more than one CD loaded (in more than one drive of course), because of the synchronization problems mentioned above, it's possible to be (say) playing an Audio CD in drive H: but seeing the Track details (or garbage) of (say) drive G: .

This is what the 'Select Drive' option is for. If taken, you are presented with the list of drives as above, and again, you should make your selection.

If MidWavi Pro suspects a bad request to freedb by way of the above problem, your data file (Midwavi.INI) is automatically restored to its former details prior to the faulty attempt.

However, it is stressed again, that this situation is best avoided by only ever having one CD loaded at a time.

New option to display graphic file name at bottom of screen in all non 'TV Look' modes i.e. full screen...allow original size etc....(reached by doing a single right mouse click OVER A GRAPHIC ON DISPLAY to bring up the 'Pop-up' menu from where you can select 'Turn Display Name ON' or toggles to 'Turn Display Name OFF').

Click to enlage...then Back button to return here       Click to enlage...then Back button to return here

You can still single right mouse click OVER A GRAPHIC ON DISPLAY to bring up a menu of options...and just a reminder that the single keyboard keys 'V' (or 'v') and 'N' (or 'n') will take you to the previous or next graphic file to display.

Remember also that if you require full details of a files location (its name and full directory path), you still have the pop-up menu option of 'File Details'

It has been found that on some systems, MidWavi Pro cannot play VideoCD (*.dat) files, so now, if this situation arises, a suitable error message is given and you are offered the opportunity to play the file using the Windows Media Player.

For the record, chances are that if you were to copy the offending file to a Hard Drive, CD-RW etc. and rename the file extension from '.dat' to '.mpg', MidWavi Pro would play the file.

Version 2.83  - 2nd December 2002

Free to registered users (please send an email requesting information on obtaining new Registration Keys if need be).

Now displays and prints GIF graphic files (including Animated GIF's) as all other supported types (full screen etc. etc.).

You may also conduct the very powerful 'Search Drive' option to allow MidWavi Pro to find all (up to 24,000) GIF files on the nominated drive.

Grateful thanks are due to Anders Melander for the use of his TGIFImage component which allows MidWavi Pro its GIF functionality.

Problem with file list boxes (containing large numbers of filenames) fixed.

Version 2.82  - 18th October 2002

Sorry, the MPEG search option is only available in the Registered version.

Major update to searching MPEG TAG's...

From the Sound & Video Player screen, just select the target search drive from the drop-down drive selection box, then hit Ctrl+S!!!

Read on...

You can search a drive for MPEG (mp2 and mp3) files with TAG's (descriptions) to find any of the six following fields (categories):

All the "fields" take 30 (mixed alpha-numeric) characters with the exception of "Released" which takes 4 (numeric only).

There are over 120 pre-ordained Genre styles (presented in a drop-down box for you).

An example:

Suppose you wanted to find all the mp2 and mp3 files on drive C: that have the artist name:

"The Beatles".

Go to the Sound & Video Player.

Start by selecting a drive letter to search in the drop down drive box.

Then, either hit Ctrl+S (that's whilst holding down the Control key, hit the S key) or take the Tools menu option "Search MPEG's for selected detail - Ctll+S".

An input box will appear containing radio buttons for all six categories into which you type your requirements.

In this case, we wish to search on the "Artist" field so ensure that this radio button is clicked.

Enter your search pattern.

The more specific you are, the more specific the search so that if for example you type in "bea" (without the speech marks), all artists names containing these letters will be returned e.g. "The BEAch Boys", "The BEAtles" etc. etc.

Click on OK (or Cancel if you wish to abort) and MidWavi Pro will search the selected drive for all mp2 and mp3 files that have your chosen artist name and automatically build a play list for you.

Tip: If you wanted to say find ALL files that date from the 1980's, make the search criteria "Released" and enter "198" in the search box (omitting the speech marks).

This will then conduct a search on the Year released field in effect looking for 198* (where * is a wild card search). That is, because you have not provided a full 4 digit year, the search will be for any year starting "198" and so on.

Remember that if searching on Genre, you can type the first, second, third etc. characters in the Combo Box and the highlight will shift to the first/next found etc.

Sorry, the MPEG search option is only available in the Registered version.

If your MPEG's tend not to have TAG's (descriptions), then why not edit them using the MidWavi Pro built-in MPEG TAG viewer-editor (see 'MPEG Tag Viewer-Editor - Ctrl+T' on the Tools menu)

You can now "scroll" a file name in the 'Audio CD Player' and 'Sound & Video' modules...this means that long file names can now be obtained (without "Tool Tips" turned on)...just click in the area marked "To scroll Title information click here" (or click in the Title display area) and scroll using the keyboard (Home-End-Cursor/Arrow Keys-Mouse) in the usual manner.

If you use the "To scroll Title information click here" option, the whole Title is automatically selected (and it displays right justified). You may then send this to the clip board using the usual Windows keystrokes (Ctrl+C).

You may also high-light (using all normal Windows keys or Mouse methods) any portion of the Title that you desire and send that to the clip board.

The UK freedb Server is now back on-line and UK users might prefer to switch back to it. An updated Server List (midwavis.ini) is supplied with version 2.82.

Numerous cosmetic fixes and additions.

Problem with ListBox errors fixed in Sound & Video module.

Updated on-line help.

Version 2.81b  - 12th August 2002

Free to registered users (please send an email requesting new Registration Keys if need be).

A problem was introduced by mistake in version 2.81 whereby in certain modes (Full Screen, Allow Original Size etc.), graphics would not be captured to the Clipboard when requested.

This has been addressed in release 2.81b and all should now be well.

Version 2.81a  - 6th August 2002

Improvement to the Graphic Viewer:
During non TV modes (i.e. full screen - allow original size etc.), you may now also use the 'N' (or 'n') key to move to the next graphic or the 'V' (or 'v') key to move to the previous one. Note this key combination was chosen so that you can toggle very easily due to the close proximity of these two keys on your keyboard.

Problem with printing full path name of a graphic file fixed.

Problem with MidWavi Pro not locating its Help file fixed.

Version 2.81  - 7th June 2002

Free to registered users (please send an email requesting new Registration Keys if need be).

Unzipping to has been improved with an 'Abort' option added as well as feedback on the Unzip progress.

In addition, Unzipping is now fully automatic in that the files are Unzipped directly into the File List Box ready to Play/Display (not as previously into a File Selection Box).

Bear in mind that because MidWavi Pro automatically tries to empty the temporary directory (Folder) used to store your Unzipped files, if these are large in number, you may experience a small delay whilst MidWavi Pro is shutting down and deleting these files.

For full details, please see the 'Tools Menu' section in the Help file.

Also, some bug fixes concerning File List Box population have been made.

Zone Alarm (Pro) 3 users please note that you are advised to upgrade to the latest release (which at the time of writing is 3.0.118).

30-day trial period for non-registered users.

Version 2.77  - 22nd February 2002

A new option to UnZip all supported media 'on the fly'...

This option is available on both the Sound & Video and the Graphics Viewer modules under the 'Tools'...'UnZip Files' and can also be accessed by using the key combination of Ctrl+Z (or Ctrl+z), that is to say that whilst holding down the control  (Ctrl) key, also press either the Z or z key.

A file selection dialog box will appear with the ‘zip’ filter already in place (in other words, only files with a .zip extension will be displayed).

Pilot yourself to the desired directory (Folder) and select your zip files in the normal Windows manner (see more below).

MidWavi Pro is capable of handling more than one zip file at a time.

To select more than one file either:

Tip: to quickly select ALL files, click anywhere within the file name area and whilst holding down the control (Ctrl) key, press the ‘A’ key.

Once your chosen zip files have been selected and the Open option taken, and subject of course to you having enough free space on your hard drive, MidWavi Pro will automatically do the following.

Every time you close down (exit) MidWavi Pro, an attempt is made to automatically delete all the files in the above temporary directory thus freeing up space.

There can be occasions where not all files get deleted and you are quite at liberty to examine the temporary directory and ‘hand’ delete files…indeed you can even delete the \midzip directory itself if you so wish (MidWavi Pro will re-create the directory when it needs it).

Some example uses:

Note all file/directory names are only suggestions…feel free to ‘roll your own’.

Create a directory called (say) ‘C:\Zipped Media’

*** The latest version has a built-in Zip capability - no need to use any external Zip programs ***

Using your favourite zip program (PKZip, WinZip etc) place your mp3 files into a zip called mp3.zip

Do the same with all other supported media e.g. mid.zip, avi.zip, wav.zip, med.zip, bmp.zip, wmf.zip etc. etc.

Then, when in the Sound & Video or Graphics Viewer module, hit Ctrl+Z (or choose UnZip Files from the Tools menu) to bring up the file selection dialog and pilot yourself to (using the above example) C:\Zipped Media.

You will then be presented with all the zip files in this directory (mid.zip, avi.zip etc. etc.).

At this point you may ‘cherry pick’ the desired zip files (or indeed, all the zip files – subject to disk free space) and MidWavi Pro will unzip as detailed above.

So, every time you wish to play/display the files during the current session, merely re-visit the C:\Windows\Temp\midzip directory and make your choice.

Version 2.76a  - 12th January 2002

This is an important problem fix release.

Various issues with video sizing and List Box errors have now been addressed.

Please do not use version 2.76 (download 2.76a)!

Version 2.76  - 11th January 2002

Support added for ASF (video), WMA (sound) and WMV (video) formats.

MidWavi Pro will not attempt to play any "locked" files (certain WMA files etc.).

Please note that graphic FIF files are now only supported on Windows 95/98 and Me.

IE6 (Internet Explorer Version 6) is now recommended to make full use of MidWavi Pro. Click to visit the Internet Explorer download web site

Version 2.75a  - 9th November 2001

Free to registered users (please send an email requesting new Registration Keys if need be).

This is an important problem fix release.

A couple of issues raised by freedb have been addressed concerning some CD track titles and CD artist/name details not displaying properly.

Also, a problem whereby version 2.75 would not always display the last CD track title if a version earlier than 2.75 was used to create it has been found and fixed.

2.75a is now compatible with Windows XP.

Version 2.75  - 21st September 2001

A major problem was found with accessing freedb for data on CD's containing many tracks.

This whole routine has been completely re-written and has tested OK.

You will now also receive information (if known) regarding a CD's year of release and its genre (i.e. Rock, Folk, Country etc.).

This enables you to gain details about the current Audio CD including:

This is backward compatible with pre MidWavi Pro 2.75 data files but of course only CD data obtained with 2.75 (and on) will contain this detail.

You can however edit the file midwavi.ini (found in your Windows directory) using any ASCII plain text editor (NotePad, WordPad - in *.txt mode etc. etc.) to add the year and genre details to any CD that you have already submitted with earlier versions of MidWavi Pro.

Details are contained in the WhatsNew.Txt file that comes with MidWavi Pro.

So far, 2.75 also works with Windows XP (RC2).

Version 2.74a  - 14th July 2001

Improvements made to the way MidWavi Pro detects whether or not an ASPI layer (driver) is present.

Version 2.74  - 14th June 2001

Support added for the freedb CDDB Audio CD database

This enables you to gain details about the current Audio CD including:

The process is fully automatic and requires only the minimal intervention by you to make certain selections / decisions.

Full details are in the on-line Help (and WhatsNew.Txt file).

Please note that apart from your usual costs to connect to the Internet (call cost, ISP etc.), freedb as its name implies is completely free to use.

Once details for a CD have been obtained they are stored locally on your hard drive for immediate future use the next time you play the CD (thus saving you having to connect every time to obtain details).

FREE to Registered Users

Some problems with CD ejection (all versions) and CD play position dragging (in Windows 2000) have been addressed in 2.74 and many internal changes made.

Version 2.73iC  - 4th May 2001

All Registered users are urged to download and install this update.

Your existing registration keys and download password will work. Just download, unzip (by double left mouse clicking on the file) and run "Setup.Exe" (no need to uninstall).

Some more side effects were experienced with a 3rd party program used in the creation of 2.73i that should have now been "cured".

Code added to try and spot a system that does not have the standard driver for MPEG installed. A suitable warning message is posted if problems are found.

Version 2.73iB  - 3rd April 2001

All Registered users are urged to download and install this update.

Your existing registration keys and download password will work. Just download, unzip (by double left mouse clicking on the file) and run "Setup.Exe" (no need to uninstall).

Some side effects were experienced with a 3rd party program used in the creation of 2.73i that should have now been "cured".

Registered users please note that if you copy the MidWavi Pro folder (sub directory) to a CD ROM so as to run from a CD then uninstall the hard drive copy (to free up space for example), you will then have to re-enter your registration keys for the CD version. If you leave your registered copy on the hard drive, you may run from either CD or hard drive.

Needless to say, effective running from a CD will entirely rely on the speed of your CD drive and system.

Version 2.73i  Final Release (Build 6) - 23rd February 2001

Your existing registration keys and download password will work. Just download, unzip (by double left mouse clicking on the file) and run "Setup.Exe" (no need to uninstall).

Smaller download resulting from use of the very splendid "Inno Setup" Installation system. For further details on this software, please visit www.innosetup.com.

New option for the Audio CD Player

You may now single right mouse click over the "Play" button to switch to Random play mode (this makes it consistent with the other two modules).

Change to the Sound & Video Player:

Problems have been found with (so far only) MPEG's with very long filenames. If such a beast is encountered, this is now shown as a possible cause of any problem in the resulting error message box.

To summarise release 2.73i:

Version 2.73i  Build 5 - 9th February 2001

ALL registered users are urged to update to this release as apart from the fact that it has many new features and code improvements, the "Check for new version" option has had to be unexpectedly altered and will only work long term with this release.

Your existing registration keys and download password will work. Just download, unzip (by double left mouse clicking on the file) and run "Setup.Exe" (no need to uninstall).

New option for the Graphic Viewer:

In "Re-size to fill screen" or "Re-size to fit window" modes, you will be able to view graphics with the aspect ratio maintained. An example follows:-

Click to enlarge - then take the Browers Back buttonClick to enlarge - then take the Browers Back buttonClick to enlarge - then take the Browers Back button

Click on a graphic for full view.

(If you choose to view a full size graphic, click your Browsers "Back" button to return to here).

You can find this option via a new Checkbox (see above screen shot).

When in non "TV Look" mode, you can also turn aspect ratio on/off "on the fly" by ensuring that the cursor is positioned somewhere within a graphic on display and single right mouse clicking. This will bring up the pop-up menu which now includes this new option.

"About" screen updated and now also includes the "Check for new version" option (see more below).

Click to enlarge - then take the Browers Back button Click on a graphic for full view.

(If you choose to view a full size graphic, click your Browsers "Back" button to return to here).

The routines that refresh the screen when you stop (hit Esc etc.) a slide show or single graphic display have been completely re-worked and should now be very much smoother (little or no screen flicker).

New option for the Graphic Viewer - Sound & Video Player:

You can now choose whether or not to sort filenames during a Drive Search (Find Files).

On both the Sound & Video and the Graphics Viewer you now have the choice whether or not to sort files found by conducting a drive search. Whenever MidWavi Pro starts up, the default is for sorting to be OFF (much improved performance).

However, you can turn sorting on and off at will with the two modules working independently of each other. That is to say that you could for example have all sound and video clips sorted but all graphics un-sorted.

Please note, as has always been the case, files are sorted by filename only, not the full path.

See the "Tools" menu for this new option.

Also, some bug fixes (er...a Service Pack) is/are included.

Try and read WhatsNew.Txt.

Version 2.73i  Build 4 - 2nd January 2001

Recent versions of MidWavi Pro have included a check for corrupt sub directories during a drive search.

In what has become something of a benchmark Feb 2001 magazine cover DVD (not ethical to name names here), TSoft has discovered that this particular DVD not only yielded the “no date stamp” problems that were addressed in 2.73i Build 3 but has now been shown to have 40 (yes 40) sub directory errors!

Previous versions of MidWavi Pro would bring up a message box indicating the bad sub directories name and you would then be required to click “OK” to clear the box.

Forty clicks (as in the above mentioned DVD) seemed excessive so the routine has been re-written as follows:

Now, at the end of a drive search, the total number (if any) of sub directory errors found is shown thus requiring just one click on “OK” to continue.

For the record, Windows 98 and Windows 2000 behave very differently in these circumstances as detailed below.

During a MidWavi Pro drive search of the above DVD, the following was found:

AVI        MPEG        WAV

Win 98SE                        37            20            773    Total found on DVD:  830

Win 2000 SP1                  9            20                 7    Total found on DVD:    36

Total number of Sub Directory Errors reported:

 Win 98SE                                None

Win 2000 SP1         40 (and they really were errors when checked with Explorer)

MidWavi Pro has its own methods for drive searching but using the built-in Windows “Find” option returned the same results.

So, this appears to show that whereas Win 98 will keep going in the face of errors, Win 2000 does not.

Possibly only Microsoft knows why this should be so (the “Industrial strength” of 2000 not liking corrupt directories perhaps?).

Anyway, you should be aware that it now turns out that depending on your O/S, you may have 36 or 830 supported files on a given DVD\CD\Hard Drive etc.!

The routine that checks for a later version has been re-vamped and starting with this build is deemed to be a reliable means of detecting a new version.

Users are now urged to make regular use of the “Check for new version” option and not rely on emails advising of updates, as has been the case in the past. Thank you.

If you have already downloaded the full Build 1, 2 or 3 and have received instructions on how to obtain just the EXE file, the procedure and password are the same as before.

Version 2.73i  Build 3 - 23rd December 2000

Files not bearing a time and date stamp (some have been discovered) would cause MidWavi Pro to produce an error (not a crash) and MidWavi Pro would then be unable to complete the remaining file details (full path and name, size etc.).

This has now been corrected so that if MidWavi Pro discovers such a file, it will report its "Age" as "File has no date stamp".

If you have already downloaded the full Build 1 or 2 and have received instructions on how to obtain just the EXE file, the procedure and password are the same as before.

Version 2.73i  Build 2 - 15th December 2000

"About" screen updated and now also includes the "Check for new version" option (see more below).

Click to enlarge - then take the Browers Back button Click on a graphic for full view.

(If you choose to view a full size graphic, click your Browsers "Back" button to return to here).

All Registered users that have already downloaded 2.73i Build 1 will be emailed with instructions on how to download just the EXE file so you will not have to re-install this release.

Version 2.73i Build 1 - 1st December 2000

Support added for Windows Me (Millennium Edition) so for instance, MidWavi Pro will know if the Windows Me CD Player is in use and turn it off for the correct operation of MidWavi Pro (as with previous versions for Windows).

You can now "Pause" a graphic Slide Show by hitting Ctrl+P.

Also, in all non "TV Look" modes, you can achieve the same by taking the single right mouse click option over a graphic to bring up the pop-up Menu which now includes a "Pause" option.

Please note that whilst "Pause" is in effect, the cursor will change to an "arrow beside an hourglass" instead of the normal "arrow only" cursor.

On all modules, you now have a single mouse click option "Check for new version" (off the "Help" menu) which will check for a later (updated) version of MidWavi Pro without you having to go to the web site...simply follow the prompts.

MidWavi Pro now checks to see whether it is running from a CD ROM or other removable media. If so, suitable warnings are issued regarding non-removal of the CD or media and also offers an option to Exit if a single CD Drive system is detected.

Some corrections were made to the routines that determine file sizes. Anomalies could occur that have now been fixed.

To summarise the Control Keys now at your disposal:

Audio CD Player - Sound & Video Player - Graphics Viewer
Ctrl+V     will bring up the Windows Volume control (if installed)
Ctrl+S     will send the Audio CD Player or Sound & Video Player to the System Tray area (v2.97 and on)

Sound & Video Player
Ctrl+W    will bring up the Windows Media Player (and play the highlighted file)
Ctrl+T     will bring up the MPEG Tag (file description) viewer-editor
Ctrl+M    will bring up the MPEG search option (v2.97 and on - this was Ctrl+S in previous versions)
Ctrl+U     will bring up the dialog to choose a file for Unzipping

Ctrl+Z     will bring up the Zip file option to open a new or existing Zip file to which you may add files

Note, in Full Screen Video mode, Ctrl+S will bring up the "Slider" control

Graphics Viewer
Ctrl+C    will copy the graphic on display to the Clipboard
Ctrl+P    will pause/un-pause a Slide Show

N            will display the next graphic file

V            will display the previous graphic file

Ctrl+U     will bring up the dialog to choose a file for Unzipping

Ctrl+Z     will bring up the Zip file option to open a new or existing Zip file to which you may add files

None of the keys are case sensitive (e.g. Ctrl+P or Ctrl+p are the same thing).

And remember, MidWavi Pro makes extensive use of single right mouse clicks.

A couple of examples being:

If you are playing "Sound & Video" clips, then, in this mode, you may single right mouse click over the "Play" button to change to a "Random" play button (and then single right mouse click over the "Random" button to go back to the normal "Play" mode button).

If you are displaying Graphics, then a single right mouse click over the "Display" button will take you to the "Random" display button (and a single right click over the "Random" button will take you back to the "Display" mode button).

There are many more.

See "WhatsNew.Txt" and on-line Help.

Enjoy, and thanks for your support.
